It's that time of year. Halloween is coming, there's a bunch of events and mini cons happening, and I'm completely at a loss for things to cosplay for them, as usual. Made or bought, doesn't matter (though bought needs to be soon for shipping and made needs to be soon to actually make).

Any ideas? Or is it another year of "guy who can't figure out a costume"...

After being behind on photos for a while, my backlog is actually, to my knowledge, done.

Those of you following my site will probably notice that I managed to do this by not taking many photos at cons for the last little while, and that'll be the continuing trend for convention shoots.

I've been keeping my con photos to non-profit and fun since 2002 when I started going to cons, and while it has been fun, I need a break. For me, the conventions and the photos have always been about fun - the chaos of making a shoot happen, the people I get to work with, trying crazy new things to see what would happen, and seeing how all the people can come together to make the shot that everyone thinks is awesome. I've never been about money, or being some sort of "big name", and I never tried to chase that sort of thing - hell, it's why I never even bothered to watermark my images. At this time, however, I won't be bringing my camera to all cons or events, because I need that space to keep it fun.

(And since someone will inevitably accuse this of being a stunt or dramatics relating to the current debate over paid cosplay photography, I assure you it isn't - this decision is months if not years in the making, I was just waiting for my backlog to be done to talk about it. This recent debate is just making my feelings a lot less mixed on the whole thing)

If you have a cool idea for meeting up for photos, drop me a line. If this cool idea happens to coincide with a convention time and space, drop me a line too and we can see. I know my camera will be coming with me for Old Montreal at Otakuthon at the very least, but I'm planning to make photos at cons the rare exception, not the rule. My deviantart will stay active, hell, it'll probably get more active, as I start trying to get back to making and posting other things.

Anyway, it's been fun - over ten years, somewhere at 100,000-200,000 photos taken, two hard drives full of non-discards, hundreds of shoots, dozens of friends and countless photos with a story behind them. Maybe the higher volume of shoots will begin again, maybe they won't, because it's all about having fun.

See you at con.

Alright, let's give some random factoids about me...

1) Art-wise, my first love isn't photography, painting, or sewing, it's music. I'm just incredibly reluctant to post the stuff I do there since I almost never like how things turn out, and since anything that isn't fanmusic online pretty much gets ignored.

2) The first con I attended was Anime North (no number, just Anime north) back in 1997. I was only there for a couple hours to meet up with some friends that I ran the anime club with. I returned to cons with a camera (film, not digital) in 2001 starting with Anime North 6, and it's been all downhill from there ;)

3) My first non-street-clothes cosplay ever worn was Inuyasha. Let's just say it's for the best not many photos exist of it, though one photo did show up in an anime magazine... o.O    One day I'll make a new one as a statement of progress.

4) Outside of cons, photos and cosplay I have a pretty quiet life now - house, cats, job, boring stuff. Dressing up as anime characters on weekends actually is me settling down from my younger days, with the occasional trips back for fun.

5) My undergrad was actually a mix of computers and psychology. I think the human mind is a pretty interesting thing to poke at.

6) I have a bizarre and ridiculous ability to remember random trivia/factoids. I am also terrible at remembering names. I've never figured out exactly how things get remembered up there, but it thankfully got me through three university degrees with almost zero studying, so I won't complain :P

Tagging: Um, I'll be nice, no tags. Tell us about yourself!

Belated entry

So, all of my 2010 galleries are done, and I'm doing some work on the 2011 ones now.

Responses have been a bit more spaced out because deviantart is now complaining about my primary browser so I don't check stuff as often.

More news as I gradually finish off the 2011 cons and photoshoots.
